Reflections on the Considerate Constructors Scheme EDI and Leadership Event

KpH Social Value & Quality Manager Mel Speller recently attended the EDI and Leadership Breakfast hosted by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS). Here are her takeaways from the event.

The event focused on the real and practical steps that can be taken to improve inclusivity in the workplace – on site and in offices.

The team from Muslims in Construction provided a valuable insight into what we can all do to support colleagues during Ramadan, and the important day to day considerations around prayer, fasting and religious festivals.

We also heard a thought-provoking talk from Marsha Ramroop, a global award‑winning inclusion culture strategist and author of Building Inclusion. She shared her perspective on what genuine, sustainable inclusion looks like and how leadership behaviour shapes culture. The session served as an important reminder of the responsibility we all have to make others feel valued and respected.

At KpH we’re encouraging interfaith dialogue amongst our teams and across our sites to raise awareness about the unique practices and traditions that can impact personal and professional lives. We already provide multi-faith rooms across all of our Principal Contractor sites and are taking action to implement flexible arrangements to accommodate religion and belief.

A huge thank you to CCS for hosting such an engaging and important event. It was a brilliant opportunity to learn, reflect, and connect with others. The biggest takeaway? That inclusion begins with a willingness to understand and take intentional action.
